ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: Meet Alec Johnson

Freestyle Alberta Mogul Team skier Alec Johnson has ambitions, big and small, for this competitive season. Hailing from Didsbury, Alberta, and the Freestyle Panorama club, the first-year provincial team member has been honing his skills with his sights set on top 10 finishes in Canada Cups and as well at the National Junior Championships at Le Relais, Quebec in late March.

With a fifth-place finish in a Canada Cup last season, the former alpine ski racer who is now entering his third season competing in moguls, has the confidence to do it again.

The 15-year-old is aiming to follow in the footsteps of national team skier Sam Goodison (Alberta mogul team alumni) and has been using his time with the provincial team wisely.

“Being on a provincial team is awesome,” he said. “What I enjoy the most are the people and all the time we get on snow.”

You will find Alec before comps with AC/DC blasting loudly in his ears as he replays his best training runs in his mind, preparing for the full send. You can follow Alec at @alec_johnson_fullsend on Instagram.
