THE NEWEST ADDITION TO YOUR KIT MIGHT BE THE LEAST NOTICEABLE

CALGARY, AB — In a sport where athletes push their limits on snow, protective equipment is part of the routine. Helmets, goggles and other essentials are second nature. But there’s one piece of equipment that often gets overlooked: a mouthguard.

For freestyle skier Jack Nash, a mouthguard offers protection without compromising performance. Now, a new partnership with Clutch Mouthguards brings that protection to Freestyle Alberta members. Seeing a friend lose a tooth playing sports was enough to convince him to start wearing a mouthguard.

“I realized that could happen to me in just one fall,” Jack explains. “I knew wearing a mouthguard was the best way to help protect my teeth and it doesn’t affect my skiing, and it’s a simple way to help protect my teeth if I take a hard fall.”

He first wore one during competition and was surprised by how comfortable it felt. “I never noticed a difference wearing it,” he says. “I actually found it more comfortable wearing a mouthguard.”

A new partnership focused on athlete protection

Coinciding with Concussion Awareness Month, Freestyle Alberta welcomes Clutch Mouthguards as a new official partner, reinforcing its commitment to athlete safety and making custom-fit mouthguards more accessible to members.

Co-founded by Alberta-born Steve Cowburn and dental technician Ili Milinkovich, Clutch is Canada’s first 3D-printed custom mouthguard company. Combining more than 20 years of dental-industry experience with advanced digital scanning and manufacturing, Clutch produces personalized mouthguards designed for comfort, fit and protection.

Designed, printed and finished in Canada using Health Canada-approved materials, Clutch mouthguards are gaining traction among athletes across several sports, including professional hockey and action sports.

“Freestyle Alberta is proud to partner with Clutch Mouthguards to empower our athletes to push their limits, perform with confidence, and stay protected every step of the way,” says Jeremy Cooper, Director of Sport, Freestyle Alberta.

A $400 member benefit, available at no cost

Through the partnership, registered Freestyle Alberta members can receive a complimentary custom 3D-printed Clutch mouthguard, valued at approximately $400, until December 31, 2026.

Each mouthguard is created from a digital scan of the athlete’s teeth and includes a Freestyle Alberta-branded case. Members simply arrange a scan with a participating dental provider, who submits it through Clutch’s online portal using the member’s promotional code. Completed mouthguards are shipped to the athlete’s local club.

Athletes must have stable teeth and not be undergoing active orthodontic treatment to qualify.
