Justin Bartziokas of the Freestyle Alberta Moguls team, a 17-year-old, is in the grind and loving it.
The Jasper skier, who’s coming off an impressive bronze medal at the recent Ontario Canada Cup, started competing in freestyle at the age of 13 and is hook-line-and-sinker with the sport and continues to work on the details, while he manages the juggle of competing and high school academics.
“I do a lot of cramming with school, ChatGPT helps,” he said with a laugh. “My favourite tip? Well, it would be to have fun, cause why else would you ski?”
Now with a goal of qualifying for the national ski team in the next few years, “J-Bart” – one of the most energetic personalities on the team – enjoys all aspects of skiing, whether it is some park laps, ripping a pow day or just grinding out a week at the summer water ramps. This summer he’s hoping to dial in his back fulls & corks to make sure he’s ready for the 2025-26 season.
In the upcoming offseason, Justin and his teammates plan to get some golf rounds in before they hit the water ramps – and hitting the frolf (frisbee golf) course after training.
