Building skills, confidence and a love for freestyle skiing
For Gabrielle “Gabby” Lacaze – the new lead coach for Jasper Freeride – coaching is about more than developing technical skills on snow. It’s about building confidence, personal growth and helping young athletes reach their potential.
Gabby has coached and instructed across Canada, Australia and Japan, bringing an international perspective and an athlete-centred approach to her work. Most recently, Gabby served as a FIS junior mogul coach with Perisher Winter Sports Club in Australia. Her Canadian experience includes working with Freestyle Panorama, Sunshine Village Ski School and Whistler Ski School.
A highly qualified instructor and coach, Gabby holds her APSI Level 4 certification and trains aspiring ski instructors preparing for their Level 1 and 2 exams. She also holds Freestyle Canada certifications in air and moguls, including air 4 trained, and brings extensive experience in athlete development.
“The reward of coaching is helping young athletes grow, both as skiers and as individuals.”
Having grown up skiing moguls herself, Gabby understands the sport from both sides of the coaching relationship. She continues to challenge herself as an athlete, competing in freeride events around the world, with her sights set on the Challenger level.
That combination of coaching expertise and personal competitive experience shapes her approach to working with young athletes. Gabby places a strong emphasis on mentorship, helping skiers develop the skills, confidence and mindset to perform at their best.
And when she’s not on snow? You’ll likely find Gabby spending time with family and friends, playing board games, travelling or seeking out her next new experience.
